Texans Shine at Charlie Thomas Invitational, Add to National Qualifying LIst
The South Plains College Texans traveled to College Station on February 6–7 to compete in the Charlie Thomas Invitational and delivered another strong performance, highlighted by podium finishes, relay success, and additional national-qualifying marks.
COLLEGE STATION, TX - The South Plains College Texans traveled to College Station to compete in the Charlie Thomas Invitational on February 6–7 and turned in another strong performance against a deep field.
In the sprints, Kyle Lawrence finished 13th in the men's 60 meters with a time of 6.91, while Loukas Rangasamy placed 15th with 6.95. The Texans showed depth in the 200 meters, led by Carlton Siwela's sixth-place finish at 21.11. Caleb Kelly followed closely in seventh at 21.12, with Aiden Kelly ninth 21.26, Elijah Joseph 11th 21.32, and Omar James 12th 21.37.
Joshem Sylvester paced the Texans in the 400 meters, finishing sixth with a time of 47.17. In the mile, Tamer Sakar placed 12th at 4:09.89, while Dennis Cheruiyot followed in 13th at 4:10.43.
The distance events continued to be a strength for South Plains. Cheruiyot finished second in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:21.51, followed closely by Ylies Mihoubi in third at 14:22.89.
In relay action, the Texans' "A" 4x400-meter relay team placed third with a time of 3:08.40, while the "B" squad finished eighth in 3:13.55.
Field event performances included Jules Courel placing fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.30 meters and Jacorey Harrell finishing ninth in the long jump with a mark of 7.11 meters.
