Cheffonia Houston joins the South Plains College women’s track and field team as a freshman for the 2025–2026 season, competing in the 200m and 400m sprints. A graduate of Anglican High School in Grenada, Cheffonia was a 3-time national champion, 2-time Intercol champion, and set a record at the national championship, establishing herself as one of the top sprinters in her country.
Her ambitions include competing at the NCAA Division I level, winning a national title at the NJCAA, and advancing her athletic career to the professional stage, while pursuing a degree that prepares her for a future in medicine or law.

The South Plains College Texans and Lady Texans wrapped up the 2026 indoor track and field season at the NJCAA National Championships in Topeka, Kansas. The Texans finished 5th overall with 58 points, while the Lady Texans placed 6th with 55.5 points, highlighted by national champions, podium finishes, and numerous scoring performances.
Entering the championship meet, the Texans are ranked No. 2 in the nation, while the Lady Texans sit at No. 7 nationally, positioning both programs among the country’s elite heading into the final showdown of the indoor season.
The South Plains College Lady Texans continued their indoor campaign at the Jarvis Scott Invite hosted by Texas Tech University, turning in multiple top finishes while solidifying their national-qualifying marks with one meet remaining before the Indoor National Championships.
The South Plains College Lady Texans traveled to College Station on February 6–7 to compete in the Charlie Thomas Invitational, continuing their indoor season against a competitive field while adding to their list of national-qualifying performances.
The South Plains College Lady Texans competed in their second indoor meet of the season at the Stan Scott Invite and turned in another strong performance with several top finishes and national-qualifying marks.
