El PASO—The South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their 2017 outdoor campaign on Saturday at the UTEP Springtime meet at Kidd Field. Naomi Kerari and Bosiboro Mosongo got things started for the Lady Texans as the duo tied for sixth in the high jump with their final marks of 4' 10.25". Jannia Price placed fifth in the women's discus with a final throw of 141' 9.5". Mclendon Hill used a mark of 49' 2.5" in the men's shot put for a second place finish.

LEVELLAND—The South Plains College men's and women's track and field team will make their second appearance of the 2017 Indoor season this weekend when they travel to College Station to compete in the Charlie Thomas Invitational on the campus of Texas A&M University. The Texans and Lady Texans kicked off the 2017 campaign on Jan. 14 at the University of Oklahoma with the two teams earning a combined 34 national qualifying marks. South Plains will be competing against some of the top NCAA Div I schools this weekend, per usual, including: Texas A&M, Baylor, Cincinnati, Clemson, Houston, Rice, TCU and UCLA.

NORMAN, Oklahoma—The South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams looked to be in mid-season form at their first Indoor meet of the 2017 season at the University of Oklahoma on Saturday. Felicia Frimpong and Melody Korie kicked off the first event of the day with a second and third-place finish in the women's long jump. Frimpong placed second with a final jump of 18-6 ½, while Korie took third with a distance of 18-3. Naomi Kerari placed third in the women's high jump with a final mark of 4-11 ½.
