Dodge City Edges South Plains College 84-82 on Last-Second Layup
The South Plains College Texans fell just short in a hard-fought battle Tuesday night at the Texan Dome, as Dodge City Community College escaped with an 84-82 victory on a last second layup.
LEVELLAND, TX - November 11th, 2025 - The South Plains College Texans fell just short in a hard-fought battle Tuesday night at the Texan Dome, as Dodge City Community College escaped with an 84-82 victory on a last second layup.
The game was tightly contested from start finish, featuring multiple lead changes and a dramatic closing stretch. Zion Pipkin tied the contest at 82-82 with 5.8 seconds remaining after knocking down two clutch free throws, but Dodge City managed to convert a layup in the final seconds to secure the win.
South Plains was led by Antallah Sandlin'el and Zion Pipkin, who each scored 15 points. Sandlin'el added 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block, shooting 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range, and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. Pipkin contributed 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 2 steals, going 4-of-12 from the field, 2-of-4 from deep, and 5-of-8 from the line.
Off the bench, Deion Ware provided a key spark with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, giving the Texans valuable production in critical moments.
Fouls proved to be a deciding factor, with more than 50 fouls called throughout the game. Free throws ultimately made the difference - South Plains finished 16-of-30 (53.3%) from the line, while Dodge City capitalized by hitting 22-of-29.
With the loss, South Plains moves to 2-1 and will look to bounce back when they travel to Lamar Community College on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. The Texans will then return home for back-to-back games on November 20th and 22nd at the Texan Dome.
