Lady Texans Dominate Western Texas, Improve to 16-2 Overall
The South Plains College Lady Texans returned to the court in dominant fashion Tuesday night, defeating Western Texas College 82–41 at the Texan Dome to improve to 16–2 overall and 4–1 in WJCAC conference play.
LEVELLAND, TX - The South Plains College Lady Texans returned to the court in dominant fashion Tuesday night, defeating Western Texas College 82–41 at the Texan Dome to improve to 16–2 overall and 4–1 in WJCAC conference play.
SPC controlled the game from start to finish, building a large lead that allowed all players to see action. The starters exited midway through the third quarter and did not return, as the Lady Texans continued to extend their advantage behind strong bench play.
Isabel Joao led the way with 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Milani Smith also scored 13 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists, while Dilangue Cruz added 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
South Plains outshot Western Texas in every shooting category, finishing at 40 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from three-point range, and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line. The Lady Texans dominated the boards with 46 rebounds, resulting in 23 second-chance points, and forced 12 turnovers that turned into 17 points.
The SPC bench contributed 17 points, while Western Texas received no scoring from its reserves. The Lady Texans' largest lead of the night reached 51 points with 9:23 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The victory marked South Plains' first game back since its conference loss to New Mexico Junior College last week. Due to weather delays, the Lady Texans will have a quick turnaround with only one day of practice before traveling to Howard College on Thursday for the next round of WJCAC action.
