#7 South Plains Lady Texans Close Texan Classic with Dominant 97-55 Win Over Otero College
The No. 7 South Plains College Lady Texans capped off the Texan Classic with a commanding 97-55 victory over the Otero College Rattlers on Saturday, December 6th, at the Texan Dome.
LEVELLAND, TX - The No. 7 South Plains College Lady Texans capped off the Texan Classic with a commanding 97-55 victory over the Otero College Rattlers on Saturday, December 6th, at the Texan Dome. The win marks the end of non-conference play for SPC, who now stand at 12-1 overall and riding an 11-game win streak.
South Plains delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, scoring 20-plus points in every quarter and controlling the game from start to finish.
Isabel Joao led the charge with yet another standout double-double, posting 23 points, and 13 rebounds, Daniela Gongo provided a major spark off the bench with 14 points, while Angelina Joao added 12 points to round out the Lady Texans' top scorers.
SPC saw contributions from nearly their entire roster, as 13 of 14 players found the scoring column. Milani Smith was the only Lady Texan held scoreless, exiting in the third quarter due to injury. Mila Krasteva turned in an efficient outing as well, recording 8 points and 6 rebounds in just 15 minutes of play.
South Plains finished the afternoon shooting 39% from the field, 22% from three point range, and 61% from the free-throw line. Their dominance on the boards continued with 59 rebounds, including numerous key offensive boards that fueled 30 second-chance points. The Lady Texans also dished out 22 assists while limiting themselves to just 12 turnovers.
Defensively, SPC forced Otero into 23 turnovers, converting those mistakes into 23 points. The bench remained a major strength, producing 39 points, and the Lady Texas' largest lead of 44 points came with 59 seconds left in the game.
With non-conference play now complete, the Lady Texans shift their focus to WJCAC competition. South Plains will return to action on January 5th, traveling to face Odessa College at the OC Sports Center.
SPC concluded non-conference play averaging 78.6 points, 48.4 rebounds, and 14.4 assists per game, setting a strong foundation heading into the conference season.
