Lady Texans ready for tough road test
The Lady Texans (5-0) are off to a hot start to the season, but expect stiff competition from host Seward County on Friday, followed by sixth-ranked Hutchinson on Saturday.
"By far, I think these teams will be conference teams," said eighth-year Lady Texan head coach Michelle Wyatt. "There is no question that their talent is what we'll see in January."
Seward (4-1) has four players averaging double-figures for the season and also have 6-foot-6 center Marta Oledzka shoring up the paint. Hutchinson (4-0), meanwhile, has four sophomores returning from a team that made it the finals of the NJCAA national tournament in Salina, Kan., last season. That team took a 36-0 record into the championship game, before falling to Trinity Valley.
The Lady Texans have also been very balanced thus far with three averaging double-digit scoring outputs and two just below the 10-points-per-game average. Freshman Tasheena Moore leads the way with 16.4 per contest.
South Plains will put their undefeated record on the line at 6 p.m. Friday against host Seward County and will then try to knock off Hutchinson at 2 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be streamed live at www.scccsaints.com. The live stream link can be found by visiting Seward's women's basketball schedule.
