Lady Texans cruise past Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Kelsey Canavan recorded her 18th career double-double as a Lady Texan when she scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help lead South Plains College to a 83-53 victory over Scottsdale Community College Monday afternoon. Canavan was flawless from the field, making 8-of-8 shots.

The Lady Texans absolutely dominated Scottsdale during the first half, taking a 24 point lead to the locker room with a score of 42-18.

Scottsdale attempted to claw their way back into the game during the early stages of the second half when they outscored SPC 13-3 inside the first five minutes to come within 14 points. The Lady Artichokes would not get any closer, though, as SPC won by 30 points, 83-53, to improve their record to 9-3 overall.

In addition to Canavan's dominance, three other Lady Texans also scored in double figures. Raely Parada dropped in 15 points and also dished out six assists, while Lauren McKinney and Lorie Romaine added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

South Plains will depart Scottsdale Tuesday morning for a 7:30 p.m. CST matchup with Pima in Tuscon.
