Lady Texans Overcome Howard in Overtime
After an Ashley Roberts three point basket began the game,Lauren McKinney helped SPC to a 9-0 start by scoring six of her 18 points in the first 90 seconds of the ball game.
Moments later a made bucket by Lorie Romaine would give the Lady Texans a 10 point lead, but that is as far ahead as the Lady Hawks would allow them to get as they fought back and even went to the locker room with a 33-30 lead.
The second half proved to be somewhat the opposite as the Lady Texans were the ones on the ropes, finding themselves down by as many as nine points with just over seven minutes remaining. Romaine would then score six points en route to a 13-4 Lady Texan run that would send the game into overtime with the score knotted up at 61 apiece.
Sophomore Kelsey Canavan made 1-of-2 free throws to start the extra period to give SPC a brief lead that was quickly answered by a Howard field goal. Roberts then gave the Lady Texans the lead they would not lose when she made a basket with 2:37 remaining in the period and SPC would go on to win the game by the score of 67-64. With the loss, Howard fell to 11-3 on the season.
The Lady Texans will enjoy some time off for the holidays before they return to action against South Mountain Community College on January 2nd at 12 p.m. CST in Phoenix, Arizona. That game will be followed by two more on consecutive days against Scottsdale College and Pima Community College.
