SNYDER—The South Plains College rodeo teams rode their way to another impressive outing over the weekend at the 2017 Western Texas College Rodeo. Zack Kirkpatrick kicked things off for the Texans with a fifth place finish in the tiedown roping event. The Crosbyton native used a long round time of 9.0 followed by a short round time of 11.1 to rack up 65 points. The Texans dominated the steer wrestling event as Chet Boren and Cameron McCarley took the top two spots overall. Boren placed first with his long time of 4.1 followed by a short round of 3.9 tallying 150 points. McCarley placed second with 110 points using a long round time of 5.4 and a short time of 3.8.
The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan rodeo teams were back in action over the weekend at the Vernon College rodeo in Vernon, Texas, which saw both teams place in the top five in their respected divisions. The Texans placed fourth overall in with 240 total points, with Kade Sherwood and Chet Boren being the two top point getters for South Plains. Tarleton State University placed first with 480 points, while New Mexico Junior College placed second with 340, and Western Texas placed third with 270.
