Texans Dominate Clarendon, Close Conference Play with 96-60 Win
South Plains College closed out conference play in commanding fashion Thursday night, cruising past Clarendon College 96-60 behind a balanced offensive effort and dominant play on both ends of the floor.
CLARENDON, TX - South Plains College delivered a dominant performance in Clarendon, defeating the Bulldogs 96-60 with 11 of the 13 Texans who saw the floor contributing points. The Texans jumped out to an early 14 point lead and never allowed Clarendon to climb back into the contest.
South Plains was sharp offensively throughout the night, shooting 56 percent from the field, 45 percent from three point range and 77 percent from the free throw line. The Texans controlled the pace and shared the ball well, finishing with 18 assists while committing only eight turnovers.
SPC also made its presence felt defensively, forcing 16 Bulldog turnovers which they converted into 23 points. South Plains dominated inside as well, scoring 46 points in the paint and receiving an impressive 61 points from the bench.
The Texans controlled the glass with 35 rebounds and continued to extend their lead throughout the second half. Their largest advantage of the night reached 36 points with 25 seconds remaining in the game.
Zion Pipkin led South Plains with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists in a strong performance off the bench. Antallah Sandlin'el and Yohandry Ortiz each added 16 points, while Aliou Maiga contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
With the victory, the Texans conclude conference play tied for second place alongside New Mexico Junior College with identical 12-4 conference records.
South Plains will now await tournament seeding as they prepare for the Region Tournament next week at Odessa College. Games will be available on the TSBN Sports Network, with viewing links to be released next week.
