Texans drop Weatherford to remain undefeated as WJCAC opener looms

PLANO, Texas – Roderick Lawrence poured in a game high 21 points and the ninth-ranked South Plains College Texans eased by Weatherford College 71-52 Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated in their final test before conference play opens Saturday, Dec. 7.

Sophomore Ryan Martin scored 14 and Billdee Williams added his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds to help lift the Texans past the Coyotes. 

Lawrence put the Texans on the board first, but Weatherford responded with back-to-back 3s to briefly give the Coyotes a lead that was short lived. 

The Texans responded with a 17-0 run and never allowed Weatherford to threaten throughout the contest. 

Sporting an undefeated record at 11-0, South Plains will wait and see where they end up when the first poll of the official season comes out Wednesday, Dec. 4 with their first game in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) looming.  The Texans are scheduled to play their first conference game when Western Texas College travels to Levelland Saturday, Dec. 7.
