Texans look to continue winning ways in Tuesday home opener

LEVELLAND - The South Plains College Texan basketball team will look to continue their winning ways when they host the Western Nebraska College Cougars (1-1) in a Tuesday night match up at the Texan Dome. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

South Plains (2-0) - ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA preseason poll - is coming off victories over Ranger College and Monterrey Tech from this past weekend's Odessa Classic. They could face a tough task in Western Nebraska as the Cougar's are averaging 101 points per game, defeating Gillette College 98-78 before falling to Sheridan College in a high scoring 107-104 affair.

Of course, the Texans have plenty of firepower themselves behind the steady leadership of their floor general, Devonte Smith, and their run-the-floor forward, 6-foot-10 Yanick Moreira.

In their season opening win versus Ranger, Moreira poured in 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Smith dished out eight assists.
