No. 14 Texans to square off with No. 19 South Georgia Tech Tuesday in Hutch

The No. 14-seeded Texans are set to square off with No. 19 South Georgia Technical College on March 15 at 10 a.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. South Plains comes in as winners of eight of their last 10 games, including an 87-83 victory over No. 8 Odessa in the Region V title game on March 5. Averaging 74.3 points per game, the Texans are shooting 42.9 percent from the floor and 32.4 percent from distance on the year. Sophomore Kieves Turner leads the Texans on the offensive end, averaging just over 18 points per game, and has scored in double figures 16 times this season, including a career-high and school-record 50 points against Midland on Feb. 24.
South Georgia Tech comes in as winners of nine of their last 10 games, averaging 86.2 points per game and shooting 47.4 percent from the floor this season. The Jets are shooting 40 percent from the 3-point line on the year, which ranks second amongst all NJCAA programs. Marvin McGhee leads the Jets on offense, averaging 20.4 points per game, and is shooting 47.4 percent from the floor and 45.1 percent from distance.
Should the Texans win on Tuesday, they will await a matchup with No. 3 Kilgore College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16.
