South Plains College rodeo teams headed to Alpine Sept. 23-25

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams are slated to return to the arena Thursday when they travel to Alpine for the Sul Ross State University Rodeo Sept. 23-25 at the S.A.L.E. Arena.

South Plains opened the fall semester last weekend in Portales at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo, which saw the Texans place third overall with 250 points. South Plains went one-two in team roping as Kayden Little and Daryan Dominguez finished first and second, respectively.

Little joined up with Jarett Freeman from Weatherford College, as the duo posted a 7.1 in the long round and a 6.3 in the short go to finish first overall with a 13.4 average and 120 points. Dominguez paired up with Chance Thiessen from Weatherford College, running a 6.8 in the long round followed by a 7.2 in the finals to take second with an average of 14.0 and 130 points.

Action will get underway from Alpine on Thursday, and results can be found using the link at the bottom of the page. Following the weekend, SPC will travel to Vernon for the Vernon College rodeo Sept. 30 – Oct. 2, followed by a trip to Canadian, Texas for the Frank Phillips College Rodeo Oct. 7-9.
