No. 16 Cochise holds off Lady Texans 61-57 in season opener

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College women's basketball team dropped its season opener to No. 16 Cochise 61-57 Friday night at the Texan Dome.
South Plains will look to rebound on Saturday when they host Coastal Bend College at 2 p.m. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com and admission to the game is free.
South Plains jumped out to a 31-20 lead at the midway point, but a 19-8 run from Cochise to begin the second half tied the contest at 39 after three quarters. South Plains had its chances in the final 10 minutes but would knock down just 19 of 41 attempts from the free throw line in the contest.
Chisom Oguego led South Plains with 12 points and five boards, as the Lady Texans shot a 26 percent clip for the game. Micayla Silas led Cochise with 23 points and shot 40 percent from the floor over 40 minutes.
