Emery Mask to represent South Plains College at College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming

LEVELLAND — South Plains College will once again be represented on the highest stage in collegiate rodeo as national qualifier Emery Mask will represent the Lady Texans at the College National Finals Rodeo beginning Monday at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming.

"It feels a bit surreal that I'm here competing with the best of the best from all over the national, but it's also very exciting because there's a chance you can come out on top and be the best in the nation," Mask said. "It's super exciting to represent South Plains College, and I hope that I make the college proud. It's a huge honor representing the Southwest Region considering our region is one of the toughest out there."

Mask qualified for the CNFR with a third place overall finish in the Southwest Region, racking up 495 points on the year, leading the Lady Texans to a third place overall team finish in the final region standings. Mask will make her first of three runs on Monday morning, with action slated to begin at 7 a.m. MDT.

As one of nearly 400 athletes competing for national gold and the title of national champion, Mask is looking forward to the opportunity to compete against the best collegiate rodeo has to offer.

"First of all, I couldn't do any of this without God," Mask said. "I'm a very faith-based person and I believe that none of this would have been possible without him. Next, I also wouldn't be here without my phenomenal equine athlete – his name is Little Power Proof, also known as Ferrari. He is the best barrel horse I could ask for. Ferrari gives me his all every time and he is super gritty and just an all-around phenomenal horse."

Following Monday's run, Mask will make her second run at 7 a.m. MDT Tuesday, followed by a third run at 7 p.m. MDT on Thursday. The CNFR will be broadcast live on ESPN3, and the full event schedule can be found here: https://cnfr.com/schedule/

"My focus this week is going to be to go in and treat this rodeo just like any other one," Mask said. "I want to go in and make good, solid fast runs. Hopefully, everything will fall together the right way and the result in bringing a national title back to South Plains College."
