SPC track and field teams set for Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout April 30-May 1

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams will compete in their final meet before nationals, taking the track Friday and Saturday in Lubbock at the Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout at the Terry & Linda Fuller Track and Field Complex.

Field events get underway with the men's javelin at 1:30 on Friday, with the men's and women's hammer throw capping day one at 3 p.m. Action will continue Saturday with the women's 5k at 9 a.m., with the men's 3k steeplechase wrapping up the meet at 9:40 p.m. Live results will be available here: https://live.pttiming.com/?mid=2234

Last time out:

South Plains heads back to Lubbock after competing at the Texas Tech Open a week ago, which saw SPC take home eight event titles.

Justin Guy notched the first event title for the Texans in the men's 110m hurdles, posting the top time in 14.03. Teammate Chris Robinson was just a step behind, taking fourth in 14.65. Sophomore All-American Khaleb McRae took first in the men's 400 meters, crossing the line in 45.71, while Robinson was third in 47.63.

In the women's 200 meters, All-American Rosemary Chukwuma placed first with a time of 23.49. Jordan Brown was close behind, taking fifth in 24.36. South Plains posted the top time in the men's 4x100 as Breylin Butler, Chaunzavia Lewis, Gabriel Woodard, and Guy clocked a 41.24. In the women's 4x100, the Lady Texans took first as Chukwuma, Keshana Page, Joniar Thomas, and Success Umukoro crossed the line in 46.20.

South Plains went one-two in the men's 800 meters, as Seydi Sall placed first with a time of 1:50.01, while Mehdi Yanouri was second in 1:50.56. In the women's 400 hurdles, Camille Lewis took first with a time of 1:01.97, while All-American Romaine Beckford notched the top mark in the men's javelin with a throw of 183' 6".

South Plains closed out the meet with a pair of top-five finishes in the men's pole vault, as Thomas Nieto was second with a clearance of 16' 10", while Scott Frazier was fifth with a mark of 15' 6.25".

Saturday will be the final meet for South Plains before the 2021 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, which will be held at the Texan Track and Field Complex in Levelland May 11-13.
