Lady Texans secure first-round bye, No. 4 seed to NJCAA Women’s Basketball National Tournament

LEVELLAND — A day after winning the Region v title, the South Plains College women's basketball team secured a first-round bye and a No. 4 seed to the NJCAA Women's Basketball National Tournament, which will be held April 19-24 at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock.

The Lady Texans will match up against the winner of No. 13 Georgia Highlands and No. 20 Southern Idaho at 1 p.m. on April 21.

South Plains will be making their third consecutive trip to the national tournament, the first under head coach Ara Baten, who is no stranger to the postseason. Prior to his arrival in Levelland, Baten led Odessa to four consecutive trips to the national tournament.

The Lady Texans amassed one of the best resumes in the country, posting a record of 19-3, including a 13-2 record in league play, and three top 25 wins. South Plains won the Western Junior College Athletic Conference title, the WJCAC Tournament title, and took down Weatherford College 74-72 to capture the Region V crown.

The entire tournament will stream live via the NJCAA Network, which can be accessed at spctexans.com using the 'Watch Lady Texans' tab at the top of the page.
