SWEETWATER — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams were back in the arena this weekend at the Ranger College Rodeo at the Nolan County Coliseum.
The Lady Texans added 50 points to their season total, moving into second in the Southwest Region standings following a seventh-place finish on Saturday. The Lady Texans have accumulated 1,045 points to date, trailing only Weatherford College, who is first in the region with 1,205 points. The Texans also finished seventh on the weekend, adding 140 points to their season total. The Texans moved into eighth in the region standings, totaling 658 points on the year.
South Plains placed three in Saturday night's goat tying finals, including Savanah Nelson who placed seventh overall. Nelson turned in a 6.9 in the long round and a 7.9 in the finals, earning 10 individual points. Elle Eagles took ninth overall in goat tying, running a 7.0 in the long round and an 8.4 in the short round. Madison Rice tallied 50 team points for the Lady Texans, finishing 10th overall in goat tying after turning in a time of 6.7 in the long round, and a 14.3 in the finals.
The Texans notched 140 points in team roping as Stefan Ramone and Tee McCloud placed sixth overall. The duo won the long round with a time of 4.6 but missed in the finals. Ramone and McCloud netted 70 points each for South Plains.
South Plains will be back on the saddle April 8-10 in Big Spring for the Howard College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Snyder for the Western Texas College Rodeo April 15-17.
