MIDLAND — Gabbie Green recorded a career-high 34 points and four assists as the top-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team downed No. 22 Midland College 61-55 Thursday at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center.
South Plains extended their win streak to 20 games against the Lady Chaparrals, improving to 23-1 on the season and 8-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. The Lady Texans return home on Monday for a 5:45 p.m. tip against Frank Phillips College on Think Pink night at the Texan Dome, sponsored by Covenant Hospital of Levelland.
Green finished 14 of 22 from the field and was 4 of 8 from the perimeter to go along with three steals in 36 minutes of action. Freshman Caroline Germond poured in 11 points, six assists, and four rebounds, sinking 4 of 11 attempts from the floor including a trio of 3s.
Ruth Koang recorded seven points and 14 rebounds, 10 on the defensive end for the Lady Texans while Nyah Morris netted six points as South Plains shot over 42 percent from the floor and drained 10 3s in the contest.
South Plains continues to give opposing offenses fits, forcing Midland to shoot just 31 percent from the field and 22 percent from the 3-point line. The Lady Texans netted 16 points inside the paint in a game they would lead from the opening tip, never trailing in the contest.
Ogechi Nwodo led Midland (16-5, 5-3) with 20 points and 11 boards, knocking down 9 of 18 attempts from the field. Lana Marov finished with 11 points and two rebounds while Annilia Dawn netted 10 and Bethany Theodore tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
