The Texans repeated their performance from a year ago, finishing in a tight team race with Iowa Central and Central Arizona. South Plains' final tally of 71 points was just nine shy of Iowa Central's winning mark of 62 three from the second place finishers.
The Texans – who entered the meet with the No. 1 ranking – put their top five scoring runners in the top 30 and were led by sophomore Antibahs Kibiwott's second place finish.
Kibiwott completed the 8,000-meter (5-mile) course in 24 minutes, 25 seconds to finish seven seconds behind defending champion Harry Mulenga of Central Arizona and earn his second cross country All-American award following a sixth-place finish a year ago in Iowa.
An All-American a year ago, Martinez crossed the line in 25:08 and was followed by his teammate who finished in 25:19.
Twin brothers Jacob (26:59) and Isaac Clark (27:21) also competed for the Texans and finished 66th and 82nd.
Victoria Salvadores earned her first All-American award wearing a Lady Texan singlet as she completed the women's 5,000-meter course in 18:20
Kaitlyn Henderson (22:08) rounded out the Lady Texan top five, finishing 212th.
South Plains College still has the NJCAA Half-Marathon Championship remaining on their schedule, held Nov. 22 in Topeka, Kan. At the 2013 NJCAA Half-Marathon Championships, the Texans finished fifth and the Lady Texans were seventh.
