    LEVELLAND — Each earning a top-five national ranking in the week one USTFCCCA national poll, the South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to San Angelo on Saturday for the 2019 David Noble Relays at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field. Coming off a strong outing in Austin at the Texas Relays last week, the Texans earned a No. 1 national ranking on Wednesday, with the Lady Texans holding the No. 4 spot on the women’s side. South Plains will be competing against a loaded field of four-year schools this weekend, including #1 Angelo State, #7 Texas A&M-Commerce, #14 Pittsburg State, and #16 Texas A&M-Kingsville on the men’s side. On the women's side, competing teams include #4 Angelo State, #5 Missouri Southern State, #10 Pittsburg State, and #22 Texas A&M-Commerce.

The meet will get underway with the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase at 1 p.m., with the men’s 4x400 relay capping the day at 4:55. South Plains will be looking for another strong outing after winning three event titles in their outdoor opener last weekend in Abilene.

    ABILENE — The South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the outdoor season on Saturday with the Texans running away with three event titles at the Wes Kittley Invitational on the campus of Abilene Christian University. The Texans and Lady Texans combined for 14 national qualifying marks in Abilene and will look to add to that number next weekend at the Fearless Champion Open March 22-23 on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Field events will begin with the men’s javelin at 9:30 a.m., with track events getting underway with the men’s and women’s steeplechase at 12:30 p.m.

The Texans sit in fourth with 29 points heading into Saturday, while the Lady Texans tallied 30 points and will enter day two in third place.

    PITTSBURG, KS — The South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams capped the indoor season with a pair of top-five national finishes Saturday at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships at the Robert W. Plaster Center. The Lady Texans earned a third-place team finish with 63 points, as Barton County took first with 119 points, followed by New Mexico Junior College who placed second with 103 points. The Texans finished fifth overall in the men’s team standings with 53 points, as Iowa Central took first with 90.5 points, followed by Barton County (80), Cloud County (63), and Coffeyville (59.5).

    COLLEGE STATION, TX — The South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams capped the weekend at the Charlie Thomas Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium with a new national record and multiple event titles. Leading after day one, Sophomore Asani Hylton wrapped up the heptathlon with 5136 points to take first overall. Following first place finishes in the 60 meters, long jump, and high jump on Friday, Hylton opened day two with a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.56. Hylton would then take fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 12’ 1.5”, and second in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:53.44.

    COLLEGE STATION, TX — Running alongside some of the nation's top NCAA Div. I athletes at the 2019 Charlie Thomas Invitational on the campus of Texas A&M University, South Plains freshman Gladys Jemaiyo represented her school and the NJCAA in prime fashion in the women's 5000-meter run, setting a new national record with a final time of 16:51.52.

    The Western Junior College Athletic Conference has announced the All-Academic Team for the Fall 2018 semester, with 36 athletes from South Plains College earning academic honors. The WJCAC All-Academic Team is an inclusive honor for all sports, recognizing student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.25 (2nd team) to a 3.64 – 4.0 (1st team).
