    LEWISVILLE —  The No.3-ranked South Plains College men’s basketball team fell to Angelina College 82-69 on Sunday on day two of the Texas East-West Challenge. Jordan Brangers led the Texans (1-1) in scoring for the second consecutive game with 19 points.  Texas Tech commit Deshawn Corprew finished the contest with 17, while Isaiah Maurice chipped in 16 points and recorded six blocked shots.
  • Texans down Lamar Port Arthur 80-70 on Saturday in season opener in Lewisville

    LEWISVILLE — The third-ranked South Plains College men’s basketball team picked up an 80-70 win in their season opener over Lamar Port Arthur on Saturday at the Texas East-West Challenge. South Plains’ Jordan Brangers led all scorers with 25 points, 14 of which came in the back half of the contest. Sophomore Greg Shead finished the contest with 11 points and was 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. Jamir Coleman and Isaiah Maurice each had 11 points for the Texans (1-0), while Chris Orlina finished with nine points and Ben Perez chipped in four.

    LEVELLAND — Expectations unchanged. The South Plains College men’s basketball team will open their season on the road in Lewisville, TX on Nov. 4 at 11.a.m. against Lamar Port Arthur at the Texas East-West Challenge. The Texans begin the year ranked third in the country and are picked to win the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, as voted on by coaches in the WJCAC. The Texans are coming off one of the most memorable seasons in program history which included a WJCAC conference title, a berth in the NJCAA Men’s Final Four, and a team which set a program record with a No. 1 national ranking for 16 consecutive weeks.
