STEPHENVILLE, Texas – South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan rodeo teams concluded their 2014-2015 season this weekend, April 23-25 at Tarleton State University (TSU). This was South Plains' final chance to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) that is held on June 14-20 in Casper, Wyo.
The South Plains College Rodeo team will compete this weekend, April 23-25 in Stephenville, Texas. This is their fifth and final rodeo for the 2015 spring semester. The Texans and Lady Texans have been working towards an opportunity to attend the 67th College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR), June 14-20 in Casper, Wyo. Each year the top three competitors from each event in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rankings compete in the CNFR.
RANGER, Texas – South Plains College Rodeo competed at Ranger College this past week on April 16-18. After their rodeo in Big Spring, the Texans were seeded eighth in the NIRA Southwest Region Standings while the Lady Texans are seeded ninth.
BIG SPRING – Finishing up another competition in Big Spring, the South Plains College Rodeo team had two team ropers, a calf roper, steer wrestler, and barrel racer make it to the final rounds.
Sophomore Shay Spitz led the way with a second place finish in barrel racing, earning a total of 110 points for South Plains along the way. Finishing fifth in the long rounds in Friday morning slack with a 16.77 run. In short rounds she ran a 16.63 trip around to finish with the third best time in the barrels.
SNYDER – South Plains College had an exceptional performance from the sophomore out of Fountain Green, Utah Shane Hancock. Hancock finished first overall in steer wrestling with a 170 points for South Plains on March 26 -28.
