LEVELLAND, Texas - Each year, the South Plains College Texan cheerleaders adopt a service project in an attempt to make a positive impact on the local community of Hockley County. This year, the squad chose to raise money for the Hockley County Child Welfare Board by selling raffle tickets for an Apple iPad 2. Selling tickets for much of the fall, the cheerleaders earned $1,000 and presented a check to Sharon Vaughan Monday night at their Christmas party in the Texan Dome.

The South Plains College Texan cheerleaders recently visited Southcrest Baptist Church to participate in an 'Upward Cheer' event meant to encourage children in Kindergarten through third grade.  The cheerleaders cheered with them at one of their practices and also spoke words of encouragement during the devotional time of the practice.

Raffling for a cause - The South Plains College Texan Cheerleaders are selling raffle tickets for an iPad2 to be given away on December 9. The tickets sell for $2 each or 3 for $5. The cheerleaders have adopted this as their service project and have chosen to donate proceeds from the sale of these tickets to the Hockley County Child Welfare Board to help make a child's Christmas a little brighter.

LEVELLAND, Texas - Whiteface native and current South Plains College cheerleader Victoria Van Zandt was crowned Miss Caprock 2011 Friday on the campus of South Plains College. Van Zandt will receive a $500 scholarship for her efforts.

"I feel honored that I was selected to represent such a great, successful and enriching school by being chosen as Miss Caprock," VanZandt said in the release. "Most of all, however, I just feel grateful that I had the opportunity to compete with such an outstanding group of girls."
