The South Plains College Texan basketball staff announced the signing of Deshaunt Walker, a 6-0 point guard from Silver Spring, Maryland.
The Texans averaged 72.3 points per game this past season, down from 82 points per game during the 2008-09 season. SPC head coach Steve Green believes Walker has the talent to help boost the Texans scoring average.
"We are really excited to have a player of this caliber join our team. In this league (WJCAC) you must have tremendous guard play to be successful and I think we found a tremendous guard in Deshaunt," Green says.
SPC sophomore forward Bo Ingram signed a letter of intent recently to continue his basketball and studies at the University of Texas-Arlington beginning in the fall of 2010.
Ingram, a native of Kinston, North Carolina, said he has thoroughly enjoyed his time on the South Plains and that he has appreciated the time and effort Coach Green and his staff has put into developing him as a player.

LEVELLAND, Texas - In a brief ceremony Thursday afternoon at Levelland High School, LHS senior Tavian Rosemond signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for the South Plains College Texans beginning in the fall semester.
Rosemond was a two-year varsity performer at Estacado High School before moving to Levelland prior to his senior year. Unfortunately, he was sidelined due to eligibility issues this past season.
However, Rosemond, a 6-8 post, worked out daily with the Lobos basketball team and on game days was one of their emotional leaders.

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 2009-10 season came to an agonizing end for the SPC Texans (18-11) when they fell to No. 24 ranked McLennan Community College (27-4) 74-70 during the first round of the NJCAA Region 5 tournament held at Lubbock Christian University's Rip Griffin Center. The Highlanders are the No. 1 seed from the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference and will face Midland College Saturday at 12 p.m. in the semi-final round.
