Tom Slagle enters his second year as a volunteer coach with SPC. His primary coaching responsibility is the pole vault, an event in which he coached a two-time NJCAA champion during the 2009 indoor and outdoor season in Kelsey Wilson.

Slagle brings a ton of experience to the SPC coaching staff as he has been a head track and field coach for a total of 12 years in the high school ranks. During his career as a head coach, he led his teams to eight district and two regional championships. Slagle has also coached 11 state qualifiers, including Kurt Hanna in 1993 and Jason Pearce in 1994 who both won the pole vault. Pearce also set the Texas Relays record at 17-feet, 1.75-inches that year.

Slagle is a graduate of Tarleton State University and he and his wife, Kristi, reside in Lubbock.
