LEVELLAND — The second-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team is set to return to the hardwood following the Christmas break with a four-game stint in Arizona beginning on Saturday.
The Lady Texans will open the trip against Phoenix College at the Phoenix College Classic at 3 p.m. MST on Dec. 28, before taking on Lake Region State College at 12 p.m. MST on Sunday. South Plains will then take on Bismarck State College at 1 p.m. MST on the 30th, before wrapping up the road trip against Mesa Community College at 12 p.m. MST on Dec 31.
South Plains brings a perfect 14-0 mark into Saturday after downing Dodge City Community College 106-50 in their last outing on Dec. 15 at the Texan Dome. The Lady Texans are shooting a nation-leading 52.7 percent from the floor and ranked eighth in the NJCAA with 87.2 points per game.
The Lady Texans have been just as impressive on the defensive end, giving up just 48.8 points per game which rank fifth nationally, forcing opponents to shoot just 31.4 percent from the field, the ninth-best defensive average in the country.
Phoenix College is currently 4-6 on the season and is 2-2 in their last four games. Averaging just over 60 points per game on the year, Phoenix College is shooting just 28.6 percent from the hardwood and 22.2 percent from the 3-point line.
