South Plains rodeo to saddle up at 2018 College Rodeo Shootout

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams will saddle up this weekend in the Alamo City at the 2018 College Rodeo Shootout as part of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

Action will get underway on Sunday, Feb.11 as teams from the Southern and Southwest regions will compete for bragging rights in 11 rodeo events, including goat tying, tie down roping, team roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling and barrel racing.

Chet Boren will be one of six members from the South Plains College rodeo program representing SPC, competing in steer wrestling this weekend. The defending Southwest region champion, Boren currently ranks fourth in the region with 205 points after five rodeos. South Plains' Stefan Ramone and Kade Sherwood will represent the Southwest region in the team roping event, as Sherwood currently ranks 13th in the region with 110 points.  

Sophomore Zack Kirkpatrick, a sophomore from Crosbyton will compete in tie down roping, while Jenna Dallyn will compete in breakaway roping and goat tying, and Alex Odle will represent South Plains in barrel racing. Dallyn currently second in goat tying with 340 points, and ninth in the region in the breakaway with 135 points. Odle also finds herself in the top five in the region, as she currently ranks second in the barrels with 330 points.

Following the weekend, South Plains will resume regional action on Feb. 22 in Odessa, followed by a trip to Sweetwater for the Ranger College Rodeo on March 22.
