Michelle Wyatt - Head Coach - 5th Season
Michelle Wyatt begins her fifth year as head coach of the Lady Texans.
In her first four campaigns, Wyatt has led the Lady Texans to a record
of 106-19 (.848) including a 46-8 mark in Western Junior College
Athletic Conference (WJCAC) games. During the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, Coach Wyatt's teams were not beaten at home as they sported a 19-0 record.
Wyatt's teams also excel in the classroom and were acknowledged for their hard work after the 2008-09 season when they finished seventh in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic top 20 poll for community colleges, posting a 3.26 team grade point average.
After serving as an assistant to SPC legend Lyndon Hardin for six years, Wyatt took over as head coach in 2005.
In
her first year as head coach, Wyatt led the Lady Texans to a 25-6
record and a spot in the Region V tournament championship game. In her
second season, the Lady Texans went 31-2 and won a WJCAC
Co-Championship and were ranked No. 1 in the nation for much of the
year. In 2007-08, SPC finished with a record of 26-4. The Lady Texans
again won the WJCAC Championship and advanced to the Region V
Championship game.
Wyatt is a graduate of Spur High School and
played college basketball for two years at Abilene Christian University
before transferring to Wayland Baptist for her last two years of
eligibility.
During her senior year, the Flying Queens finished 30-5 and were 1992 NAIA national runners-up.
Wyatt
started her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Texas Christian
University from 1993-95. She left TCU to become an assistant at
Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. She then became an assistant at
Wayland Baptist for three years. She joined the SPC staff as an
assistant in 1999.
Wyatt has worked camps at Wayland Baptist
University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University and South
Plains College. She was Co-Director of the annual Wyatt-White
Basketball Camp in Spur, Texas in 1995-96, a camp she conducted with
her cousin Lance White, an assistant coach at Florida State University.
She oversaw a varsity camp, a day camp and a mini-camp designed
especially for kindergarten through third graders.
In her spare time, Wyatt enjoys running and participated in the Boston Marathon in 1999. She also enjoys playing golf.
She
graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and a
minor in Biology. She earned her Master's degree in Sport Pedagogy from
Texas Christian University.
