SAN ANGELO, Texas - The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan track and field teams competed in the David Noble/Angelo State Relays this past Thursday and turned in yet another stellar performance. Lady Texan athletes claimed eight first place finishes and the Texans took four top spots. More importantly, however, the teams have piled up an enormous amount of qualifying marks for next month's NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and should be well represented when South Plains College plays host to the championship meet May 15-17.

Highlighting the action in San Angelo for SPC was the men's 800 meter run where the SPC trio of Anthonio Mascoll, Kin Scott, and Shevaun Marsh swept the top three spots while each claimed season best times in the process.

Mascoll sped to the victory with a top time of 1 minute, 49.73 seconds, but his teammates were right on his heels as Scott, who has improved dramatically during his sophomore season, turned in a personal best time of 1:50.09. Marsh finished third in 1:50.88.

Scott has improved more than five seconds over the last year and is on the verge of becoming a sub-1:50 half-miler.

In the men's 5,000 meter run, Kemoy Campbell set a new personal record by nearly 30-seconds while defeating his nearest competitor by more than 40-seconds. Campbell crossed the line in 14:29.50

With only three meets remaining before South Plains College hosts the NJCAA Outdoor Championships at the Texan Track Complex May 15-17, South Plains athletes are dominating the NJCAA descending order lists. Texan athletes lead the nation in nine events and are second in two others while Lady Texan athletes are also top-ranked in nine events and are second in four others.

Both teams are the defending NJCAA outdoor champions. The Texans will be seeking their sixth consecutive title and the Lady Texans will be gunning for their fourth.

Next up for the track teams will be the Texas Tech Invitational on Saturday, April 14 in Lubbock.
