LUBBOCK, Texas - The SPC Texan and Lady Texan track and field teams competed at Texas Tech on Saturday and came away with three new school records, 13 first place finishes and 31 new season bests that are also qualifiers to the NJCAA meet held next month.


Quincy Wilson, who tied the 26 year old shot put record two weeks ago, broke the record formerly held by Glen Calvert in 1984 when he unleashed a toss of 56-04.50 to break it by four inches and finish third in the event.

Kelsey Wilson tied the school record of 12-01.50 she set in this facility last May and finished third in the women's pole vault.

In the women's 400 meter hurdles, Chante'sean White ran a huge personal record in the event she only began running this year when she crossed the line first in 1:00.25, breaking Samantha Hallman's 2008 record. Harmony Phillips (5th) and Paulina Engfors (9th) also set season bests in the event when they posted times of 1:04.41 and 1:08.93, respectively.

Colleen Felix won the javelin throw with a toss of 146-00.00.

Lady Texan Kelly Closse tossed the women's shot put 51-03.00 to come away with the victory. She then finished second in the hammer throw (168-07.00) and third in the discus (149-05.00).

Erynn Young missed the school record in the women's long jump by only two inches with her season best leap of 19-10.25 to win the event. Young's teammate, Shaneika McRae, finished third in the event with a season best mark of 18-09.00.

Texan jumpers Kyron Blaise and Dellon Williams took the first and third spots in the men's long jump when Blaise just missed his season best mark with a jump of 25-02.00. Williams' best mark was 24-07.00. Freshman Anthony May made his season debut in the event and recorded an NJCAA qualifying mark with a jump of 23-11.50.

Ryan Hughes cleared his first bars of the season in the men's pole vault and ended the day with a best clearance of 16-00.75, the best by a Texan vaulter in 2010. McRight finished second, just ahead of his teammate Ryan McRight who was third, tying his season best of 15-07.00.

Erynn Young and Jona McGowen led the Lady Texans to a sweep of the top four spots in the women's high jump when they each cleared 5-05.00. Young earned the victory with fewer misses. Kristian Spencer and Shaneika McRae both cleared 5-03.00 to finish third and fourth.

Anthony May defeated Texas Tech's Justin Turner in the men's high jump when he cleared 6-08.75.

Kia Wansley and McRae both set season bests to take the first two places in the women's triple jump. Wansley took the top spot with a jump of 42-01.50 while McRae's best leap of 39-04.50 was good for second.

In the men's triple jump, Stephen Emere and Ronson Small each exceeded 50-feet for the first time this season. Emere (50-11.50.00) finished third and Small (50-03.50) was fourth.

Kadian Dunkley punched her ticket to the NJCAA meet in her first crack at the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Dunkley crossed the line in a time of 12:16.23 to finish second.

The Lady Texan 4x100 meter relay team of Angelique Lykes, Janelle Redhead, Nicquel Thomas and Jura Levy finished in second place with a time of 45.47 seconds.

In the men's 4x100 meter relay, Niko Williams-Richey, Devin Hill, Isaiah Gill and Rondell Bartholomew ran a season best time of 40.06 to win the event.

Felix, who earlier won the javelin competition, ran a season best time of 14.52 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles to finish fifth.

Jura Levy just missed the school record of 54.08 seconds in the women's 400 meter dash when she crossed the line fifth with a time of 54.18 seconds. Levy led two other Lady Texans to sub 55-second 400 meter times when Janelle Redhead (6th) clocked a time of 54.26 seconds and Shakeeri Cole (7th) finished with a time of 54.75 seconds. Angelique Lykes (9th) ran a season best time of 55.09 seconds.

Running his first 400 meter dash of the season, Troy Faulkner clocked a time of 46.91 seconds to finish fourth in the event.

Nicquel Thomas finished fourth in the women's 100 meter dash with a time of 11.85 seconds. Thomas returned to finish third in the 200 meter dash with another season best time of 23.87 seconds.

Running her first 800-meter run of the season, Angelle Miranda finished 12th overall with a time of 2:20.59.

The Texan 200-meter runners took four of the top five spots with Rondell Bartholomew leading the way with a speedy time of 20.95 seconds. Anton Kokorin was third in 21.19 seconds, while Isaiah Gill and Devin Hill finished fourth and fifth with times of 21.26 and 21.36 seconds, respectively.

The Lady Texan 4x400 meter relay team of Angelle Miranda, Angelique Lykes, Chante'sean White and Harmony Phillips finished second with a time of 3:48.68. The Texan 4x400 meter relay team also finished in second place with a time of 3:09.91.
