
SNYDER, Texas - The South Plains College Lady Texan rodeo team finished a disappointing seventh place after scoring 90 points at the Western Texas College rodeo held in Snyder April 1-3, but still have a strong standing overall as they remain second with 1,958.33 points.
Brittany Bell got the Lady Texans off to a good start in the first round of the goat tying competition when she completed the round in 7.10 seconds to tie for first and score 55 points. Bell struggled in the short round, finishing in 9.10 seconds for the sixth best time and 10 additional points. Her combined time of 16.20 seconds was tied for fourth in the scoring average to add another 25 points for a total of 90.
After eight rodeos in the 2009-10 season, the Lady Texans are in second place in the Southwest regional standings with 1,958.33 points and several athletes have strong individual standings, led by Bell who sits on top of the leader board in goat tying with 710 points, 210 points ahead of her nearest competitor.
Carley Richardson is third in the women's all-around standings as well as breakaway roping and also sits in eighth place in barrel racing.
With 480 points, Haley Nelson is fourth in the barrel racing standings.
For the Texans, Ben Ramey leads all steer wrestling competitors with 410 points.
Two rodeos remain on the South Plains College regular season schedule and next up will be the Howard College rodeo April 15-17 in Big Spring, Texas. The final rodeo is scheduled for April 22-24 at Tarleton State University.
