LUBBOCK, Texas - The South Plains College Lady Texans could not have found a better game to get revenge against McLennan Community College for the defeat they handed to SPC on December 7th by way of a buzzer beating half-court shot. If that had happened today, SPC's season would be over. Instead they escaped the Rip Griffin Center with a 64-61 victory and a spot in the Region 5 semi-final tomorrow at 5 p.m. against either Odessa College or Temple College.

The Lady Texans controlled the first half, leading by as many as 12 points before a late 11-4 Highlassie run sent the two teams to the locker room with SPC up 35-30.

McLennan dominated the opening minutes of the second half by not allowing SPC to score a single point in the first 2-minutes and 45-seconds on their way to an 11-0 run to begin the half and take a six point lead, 41-35.

SPC would not let the momentum remain with their opponents and with 8:48 remaining in the game the two teams were knotted up for the fifth time of the game, 50-50.

After MCC's Sara Stanley gave her team a 52-50 lead with a layup in the paint, SPC sophomore Sajoyia Griffin went on the score the next five points of the game and sparked a 9-2 Lady Texan run that put them ahead by five points, 59-54, with just over two minutes remaining in the contest.

With only 15 seconds remaining on the clock, the Lady Texans appeared to have the game in hand with a 63-58 lead. However, MCC quickly took the ball down the court and Macy Wischmeier nailed her third three point field goal of the night to make it a two point contest with less than five seconds left on the clock. Having no other choice, MCC quickly fouled Lorie Romaine who then went to the free throw line to shoot two. Romaine missed her first, but made the second to give SPC a 64-61 lead they would hold onto after an MCC player missed a desperation heave to end the game.

Griffin led all scorers with 22 points while making 7-of-16 shots from the field, while freshman Kelsey Canavan recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Ashlyn Green and Lorie Romaine added 9 and 7 points, respectively.
