
HOBBS, N.M. - The South Plains College Lady Texans (18-9, 9-3) have clinched second place in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) after defeating New Mexico Junior College (16-13, 7-5) 57-44 Thursday night. The SPC women will face the No. 3 seed from the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 5. With one game remaining, McLennan Community College (17-11, 11-4) is in third place in the NTJCAC, with Cisco College (20-8, 10-5) lurking a game behind.
Trailing 27-26, the Lady Texans opened the second half on a 6-0 run and held NMJC scoreless until TJ Hart broke the Lady T-Bird drought seven minutes into the second half to make the score 32-29, sparking a 9-0 run to help NMJC retake the lead, 36-32.
SPC would go on to dominate the remaining ten minutes of the contest, outscoring NMJC 25-8 to return to Levelland with the victory.
Sophomore Sajoyia Griffin scored a game high 17 points on
5-of-12 shooting, while playing all 40 minutes of the contest. Freshman Kelsey Canavan recorded her eleventh
double-double of the season with 14 points and 16 rebounds. This is Canavan's fourth in conference
play.
