LEVELLAND, Texas - Sophomore guard Sajoyia Griffin, playing in her final home game as a Lady Texan inside the Texan Dome, score 17 of her season high 24 points in the first half to help lead South Plains College (16-9, 7-3) to a 13 point halftime lead, 36-21.

Odessa (21-5, 5-4), desperate to hang on to the third spot was not ready to throw in the towel and chipped at the SPC lead during the first 12 minutes of the second half. With 7:56 remaining on the clock, the Lady Wranglers tied the game at 48-48.

It appeared that Griffin may have heated back up just at the right time as she led the Lady Texans on an 11-5 scoring run in which she contributed seven points to put SPC back up by six, 59-53.

The Lady Wranglers tied the game back up at 59-59 after a 6-0 run in which Odessa players shot 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

With only nine seconds remaining Griffin's shot from just left of the free throw line missed its mark and Odessa's Ali Bills secured the defensive rebound. Bills passed the ball to Shon Redmond who quickly pushed the ball up the court and passed to Judith Tabala inside the paint. Tabala turned to her left and put the ball up and in the basket just as time was expiring to give the Lady Wranglers the win.

Griffin just missed her career high of 25 points set last February versus Clarendon College as she finished with 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Griffin also pulled down six rebounds and had four steals while playing all 40 minutes of the contest. Freshman Lorie Romaine added 12 points.

The Lady Texans travel to Borger on Thursday for a 5:45 p.m. showdown with Frank Phillips College (17-9, 3-6). The Lady Plainsmen defeated non-conference opponent Clarendon College 104-99 this evening.
