LEVELLAND, Texas - Sajoyia Griffin scored 23 points, tying her season high, and Kelsey Canavan added 17 points and 12 rebounds to record her eighth double-double of the season to help lead the South Plains College Lady Texans (14-7, 5-1) to a 72-64 victory over New Mexico Junior College (12-11, 3-3). The victory is the fourth consecutive for the Lady Texans who are also undefeated in the Texan Dome.
The first half did not go as the Lady Texans had hoped as they shot only 33-percent from the field, trailing the majority of the period and ultimately going to the locker room with an 11 point deficit, 35-24.
Whatever was said behind the locker room doors must have worked as South Plains College quickly chipped away at the Lady T-Birds lead and tied the score 46-46 ten minutes into the second period. The Lady Texans would not trail in the game again, winning 72-64, ending the first half of conference play in a tie for first with Midland College (21-3, 5-1), the team SPC will host one week from tonight in the Texan Dome.
South Plains College will face Howard College (17-4, 3-3) at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday in Big Spring. SPC handed the Lady Hawks their first conference loss on January 11th and Howard went on to lose the next two to begin 0-3. They have become hot as of late, winning three straight, most recently a 64-57 victory over Frank Phillips tonight in Big Spring.
