MIDLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Lady Texans hit the road for their first conference road trip of 2010 to face NJCAA sixth ranked Midland College and found themselves in an early hole they were unable to overcome.

SPC allowed the defending Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) champions to jump out to an 11-point lead in the first seven minutes of the ballgame, 16-5. The Lady Texans fought to get within seven points on five different occasions, but that was as close as they could get before going to the locker room down 12 points, 36-24.

The SPC women fought hard and refused to give up in the second half, but in the end the sixth ranked Lady Chaps (17-3, 1-1) handed South Plains (10-7, 1-1) their first conference loss of the season 61-46.

Sophomore guard Sajoyia Griffin led the Lady Texans with a game high 19 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

The Lady Texans will return to the Texan Dome on Monday, January 18th when they face Western Texas College on Holiday Inn Express night. The Lady Westerners are 0-2 in WJCAC play after losing to Howard College by the score of 63-56 this evening to Frank Phillips College.

At halftime of Monday's Texan and Lady Texan games the SPC athletic department will raffle off a portable dvd player and a 22-inch vizio HDTV, courtesy of Holiday Inn Express of Levelland.
