The South Plains College Lady Texans traveled to Tucson, Arizona this past weekend, losing to the Tucson Sol on Friday afternoon but bouncing back to beat Pima Community College on Saturday afternoon.

The Tucson Sol is a semi-professional team made up of former collegiate basketball players living in the Tucson area, but the Lady Texans got right in there and kept it close for the first half and went to the locker room down by six points, 35-29.

SPC ran out of gas in the second half, though, and lost 77-61.

Lorie Romaine led the Lady Texans with 16 points and fellow freshman Kelsey Canavan added 14 points as well as 15 rebounds to record a double-double. Jasmine Taylor score 11 points.

On Saturday afternoon the Lady Texans faced Pima Community College in a game where both teams shot abysmally in the first half, only to catch fire in the second half.

The Lady Texans made only 6-of-23 shots in the first 20 minutes of play, but still managed to take a one point lead to the locker room, 24-23. SPC then made 16-of-30 shots in the second half, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, but were forced into overtime because Pima also shot well, making 14-of-28 including 8-of-12 from downtown. At the end of regulation the game was tied 62-62.

The Lady Texans were able to outscore their opponent 5-4 in the extra period to claim the victory and are now 4-1 on the season.

Romaine and Canavan again led SPC with 17 and 12 points, respectively. Canavan narrowly missed another double-double as she also recorded nine rebounds.

SPC returns to action on Thursday, November 19 when they travel to Lubbock to square off with the Lubbock Christian junior varsity squad at 6 p.m.
