LEVELLAND - The South Plains College Texan basketball team started the season on a positive note as they defeated the Wayland Baptist Pioneer JV squad 121-33 on Wednesday night. As a team, the Texans shot 47-of-95 from the floor.

It did not take long for the Texans to take control as they scored the first 13-points of the game and led 54-16 at halftime.

The Texans had five players score in double figures, led by freshman Victor Holloway and Winston Graham who scored 16 points apiece. Graham also showed his quick hands as he recorded nine steals. Khaliq Gross scored 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. Kenny Brown and sophomore Tramar Sutherland each scored 12 points.

Also for SPC, JP Bernardi scored nine points and Bo Ingram added seven. Josh Orta also scored seven points in addition to dishing out seven assists. Nick Diatta, Antwain Thomas, Malik Smith, and Myles Walker all scored six points and Brandon Pitts contributed with five points.

The Texans will return to action on Monday, November 9th when they travel to Temple, Texas to take on the Leopards of Temple College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
