ALTUS, Okla.- The South Plains College Lady Texans had four players score in double figures and used a strong second half to pull away from the Lady Pioneers of Western Oklahoma State College 74-62.

The Lady Texans led by as many as seven points in the first half, but Western Oklahoma fought back and the two teams went into the locker room at the half with South Plains College leading back two points, 35-33.

The Lady Texans entered the second half of the ballgame with renewed energy and surged ahead behind a 20-6 scoring run in the first six minutes to take a commanding 55-39 lead.

Western Oklahoma tried to get back into the game over the next ten minutes, getting as close to seven points with seven minutes to go in the ballgame. The Lady Texans were too tough down the stretch, though, eventually winning 74-62.

Sophomore guard Sajoyia Griffin led the Lady Texans in scoring with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting and also nailed 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Griffin also dished out six assists, while freshman Lorie Romaine made 6-of-13 shots from the field on her way to scoring 14 points in the game. Kelsey Canavan dominated the paint with 12 points and six rebounds and Ashlyn Green add 11 points and five rebounds.

Also for the Lady Texans, Christen McLee scored seven points and pulled down six rebounds, Jasmine Taylor added six points, ToiEasha Cooper scored four, while Teysha Matthews nailed a shot from beyond the arc for three points, and Megan Burns added two points.

The victory gets SPC off to a winning note with a 1-0 record on the season and they take on Temple College in the first game of the SPC Breakfast Rotary Classic on Thursday, November 5th at 6 p.m.
