South Plains College head track and field coach Chris Beene and associate head coach Blaine Wiley were honored as men's and women's head and assistant coaches of the year for the 2009 outdoor track and field season. The award is voted on by their coaching peers of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The 2008-09 season was very successful for the Texans and Lady Texans as Beene's and Wiley's teams claimed five NJCAA championships by winning the men's half-marathon, men's and women's indoor track, and men's and women's outdoor track. The Texan cross country team finished second at the national championships this past November.
CASPER, Wyo. - The South Plains College men's and women's
rodeo teams completed their seasons when they competed at the National
Intercollegiate Rodeo Association championships June 13-21 with the Lady Texans
finishing third in the team standings with 525 points behind the strong
showings of Dana Weiser and Haley Nelson.
