DETROIT, Mich. – Former Texan track and field star Dakarie McKinnie was tragically killed Friday, June 20, when he was gunned down after leaving his job at the Chrysler plant where he had recently been hired. Dakarie was only 20 years old and was also taking classes to become a heating and cooling technician.
A standout athlete for the South Plains College Track and Field team from 2011-2013, McKinnie ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that set the NJCAA record of 3 minutes, 1.32 seconds on May 5, 2012.

CASPER, Wyo. - Shay Spitz completed action at the College National Final Rodeo (CNFR) Saturday night with arguably her best performance of the week and will head home with a third place finish in the women's All-Around and a fourth place in the barrel racing.
